miniPDM Troubleshooting

If you encounter some issues with miniPDM during the installation or while using the add-in, you can find in this article different fixes and workarounds.


The Certificate Or Its Location Is Not Trusted

If you encounter that error message during the installation you have to add sw.tips to your Trusted zone.

  • In Windows 10, in the search box on the taskbar, type “Internet Options”. Then, select the top result for Internet Options (Control panel).
  • Select the Security tab and then click on Trusted sites. Then, click on the Sites button.
  • Type “https://sw.tips” and then click Add. Click on Close and OK.

If the problem persists, it is most likely that the ClickOnce trust prompt is disabled.
Some software installation or updates and possibly some Windows updates can modify the trust prompt behavior.
If it disabled, the trust prompt is not displayed for any ClickOnce applications that are not signed with an explicitly trusted certificate and then you cannot manually grant trust to application.

To resolve this issue, you have to open the Registry Editor and modify a key. In order to do that, you have to be Administrator of your computer.

  • In Windows 10, there are two ways to open Registry Editor:
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type “regedit”. Then, select the top result for Registry Editor (Desktop app).
    • Right-click the Start button, then select Run. Enter “regedit” in the Open: box and select OK.
  • Navigate to the following key:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\Security\TrustManager

  • Delete the whole PromptingLevel key or change the Internet value to Enabled.

Don’t worry, this is not creating any security vulnerability on your computer, it is just activating the display of a button so you can manually grant trust.

You will have to repeat this procedure again if another software overwrites these keys.

Logitech Option update for example is known for changing these keys to Disabled.


Add-in Disabled

If for some reason the add-in has been flagged by Excel, and you have clicked Yes to disable it, you can reactivate it in the Excel Options.

  • Select Add-Ins in the left pan.
  • In Manage, use the dropdown menu to select COM Add-ins and then click Go…
  • Check the box in front of miniPDM and click OK to re-activate it.


Another Version Is Currently Installed

If you encounter that error message during the installation it is most likely that the application has been installed before but not properly uninstalled.

To resolve this issue you have to open the Registry Editor and delete a key.

  • In Windows 10, there are two ways to open Registry Editor:
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type regedit. Then, select the top result for Registry Editor (Desktop app).
    • Right-click the Start button, then select Run. Enter regedit in the Open: box and select OK.
  • Navigate to the following key:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTA\Solutions

  • Once you have located the key containing a value with miniPDM – Excel Add-in as ProductName, delete the whole folder with the GUID name and run again the installer.

Configuration System Failed to Initialize

If you encounter that error message during SolidWorks launch, it is most likely that the settings file has been corrupted.

To resolve this issue you have to navigate to the following potential locations and delete the user.config file:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Dassault_Systemes_SolidWo\DefaultDomain_Path_eqgxcqguaoa2umrm5uhr5hj20tl502gw\24.4.0.0086

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Dassault_Systemes_SolidWo\DefaultDomain_Path_eqgxcqguaoa2umrm5uhr5hj20tl502gw\24.4.0.0086

Note that the file path may be different depending of your Windows version, SolidWorks version, etc…
